KNCAP strategy for electric vehicle safety evaluation

18 Mar 2026
Day 1
In line with the domestic Electric Vehicle Distribution and Promotion Policy, sales of electric vehicles are expected to continue to grow, overcoming the stagnation period from 2023 to 2024 and reaching approximately 220,000 units in 2025, a 50.1% year-on-year increase. Despite this sales growth, negative issues related to electric vehicles, such as fires and suspected sudden acceleration, are also on the rise, leading to consumer hesitation regarding electric vehicle purchases. The Korea New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) aims to objectively evaluate the safety of electric vehicles on sale and provide the results to expand consumer choice. This presentation introduces the safety assessment strategy employed by KNCAP.
