Future directions for hydrogen fuel cell cell/stack testing

19 Mar 2026
Day 2
Today, the performance and durability of hydrogen fuel cells and stacks are mainly evaluated through electrochemical tests at the cell level. These tests are typically conducted under controlled laboratory conditions and are used to indirectly assess fuel cell behavior. In actual applications, however, hydrogen fuel cell stacks installed in vehicles are exposed to various driving environments, where they experience mechanical loads and combined operating conditions. As a result, there is an increasing need for direct and integrated testing methods for cells and stacks under conditions that better represent real-world operation. This presentation introduces a new mechanical testing method and discusses emerging test requirements and possible solutions for future hydrogen fuel cell evaluation.
